Surya Namaskar : Surya namaskar exercise is devoted to the worship of SUN which is the provider of energy, light and heat. It has been practiced in Bharat for thousands of years. The complete set of “asanas” combined with proper deep and rhythmic breathing can provide significant physical and mental benefits. They can be practiced any time of the time, however, morning on an empty stomach are preferred. When practiced in the morning ,”surya namaskar” relieves stiffness, energizes the body and refreshes the mind. It is a form of exercise for all fitness levels. It is a form of yoga.

The benefits which we get by doing yoga, surya namaskar provides all that benefits in a very small package of exercise. The obvious advantage of Surya Namaskar is the workout it provides for the muscles, but it also benefits joints, ligaments and the skeletal system by improving posture, flexibility and balance.

In addition to these physical benefitssurya namaskar practice stimulates and conditions virtually every system in the body. It is good for the heart and stimulates the cardiovascular system. It strengthen our heart by oxygenates the blood because we inhale and exhale large amount of oxygen while doing surya namaskar . Its exercises are  good for our digestive system and the nervous system to work well and effectively. It stimulates the lymphatic system and supports respiratory system health, as well.

The Endocrine system and  the various endocrinal glands of our body do their  function properly with the help of exercises which we perform in Surya namaskar. These include the thyroid, parathyroid and pituitary glands as well as the adrenal gland, testes and ovaries.

The regular practioners of surya namaskar also gets benefits of stable mind and it also refreshes the mind and remove the diseases like depression and improve the mental fitness . The general health benefits of surya namaskar associated while performing  surya namaskar, each of the yoga” or “surya namaskar”  poses in the series provides specific health benefits and are explained below :

  •   Pose 1 (and 12) : The first and twelfth  pose  Promotes balance and  stimulates the respiratory system and  exercises shoulder, back and neck muscles.
  •  Pose 2 (and 11) : The second and eleventh  poses promotes balance and  promotes digestion, exercises arms and shoulder muscles and promotes the  flexibility in the back of our body and in hips also.
  •  Pose 3 (and 10) : The third and tenth poses stretches back and leg muscles and  promotes blood circulation, tones abdominal tracts, , stimulates spinal nerves and  stimulates lymphatic system.
  •  Pose 4 (and 9) : The forth and ninth poses  strengthens hand and wrist muscles and exercise spines.
  •  Pose 5 (and 8) : The fifth and eighth poses relives neck and shoulder tension and  stimulates blood circulation and  strengthens the heart, strengthens wrist and arm muscles.
  • Pose 6 : The sixth pose strengthens leg and arm muscles, increases flexibility in neck and shoulders, stretches arms, shoulder, neck and back muscles, exercises back muscles, releases tension in neck and shoulder.
  • Pose 7 : The seventh pose  tones digestive tract, stretches upper and lower body, promotes flexibility in the beck, stimulates nerves in spine, stimulates the  circulation to abdominal organs.

From the start of poses from 1 to 5 are the same poses from 8 to 12 and have same benefits. The health benefits of each are similar to their corresponding poses.
